Common Questions

Will the treatment be painful?

We will take every measure to ensure that your procedure is in no way uncomfortable or painful. If treatment is needed, we will inject a small amount of anesthesia to gently numb a concentrated area of your mouth. For most patients, the feeling of numbness usually subsides after 2-3 hours.

Will I need to return to your office for follow-ups after the procedure is finished?

Yes, for most root canal procedures, we recommend that patients return to the office in 6 months for a complimentary follow-up visit.  Our office will send a reminder notice to you when you are due for this appointment.

How many visits will it take to complete the treatment?

Treatment duration can vary from 1 to 3 or more visits.  A straightforward root canal on an asymptomatic tooth may be completed in one visit, while more complex teeth that are symptomatic, or teeth requiring retreatment, may require 2 or 3, and occasionally more appointments.  We believe that the long term outcome of your treatment is significantly improved if the root canal is completed when the original symptoms have subsided and the tooth feels like a normal tooth in your mouth.  It is important to note that the more severe the original symptoms, the longer this can take.   Since it is our goal for you to maintain your tooth over many years, we will wait to complete the treatment until signs of comfort and healing are seen.
